Fourth and Final Round of Winners Announced for the St. Lawrence River Seasonal Photography Contest

First place: “Sun Salutation” by Charlene Dumas.

Akwesasne - The St. Lawrence River Area of Concern (AOC) program at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT) and the Friends of the Robert Moses State Park (RMSP) Nature Center hosted their fourth and final round (fall) of seasonal photography, September 13 -27, 2013.  Judging took place on September 30 with representatives from the SRMT Environment Division, SRMT Public Information Office and the Friends of the RMSP Nature Center Board of Directors.

First place winner, Charlene Dumas is the recipient of a $25 gift certificate donated by Twin Leaf. Charlene’s photo, “Sun Salutation” gives one a sense of natural tranquility just by looking at it. “What better place to honor the sun and enjoy the early autumn colors than by the St. Lawrence River?” said Mrs. Dumas of her winning photograph.

The second place winner was Mary Lisa Whitton who received the Better Bird Watching DVD donated by the Friends of the RMSP Nature Center for, “Point of View”. Her expertly focused lens captures the detail of the heron’s feathers, fishing off a rocky point on Wilson Hill. “Life is good!” is the vibe Ms. Whitton was struck by when watching this bird in its natural environment.

Second place: “Point of View” by Mary Lisa Whitton.

Third place winner Derek Cook received the Friends of the RMSP Nature Center T-shirt for “Get the Net!”  The imagery evoked by Mr. Cook’s photo demonstrates most fishermen’s pleasure of the moment of the ‘fish on’ catch on the great St. Lawrence River.

Framed winning photos can be viewed at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall in Massena, NY. Thank you to all who participated in submitting a photo to the seasonal contest.
