On Sunday, September 29th, approximately 2,800 people from various communities in the North Country welcomed Archbishop Carlo Mario Vigano, who is the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States. They gathered for a Diocesan Solemn Holy Mass at the Lake Placid’s Olympic Center. The Archbishop received a very nice welcome by Bishop Terry LaValley. The audience applauded and cheered when Bishop LaValley welcomed Archbishop Vigano by saying “Welcome to God’s Country.”

During the entrance of the mass, the 300-member choir sang out. In the procession were priests, deacons, altar servers, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters of America and those participating in the Prayer of the Faithful, including Harold Caldwell from Akwesasne. Mr. Caldwell read the Offertory prayer for the Church, our Holy Father Pope Francis and all in authority.

There were approximately 73 that attended the Solemn Mass from Akwesasne. A special thank you goes out to Matt and Sandy Rourke for making the arrangement to have a bus available for community members to attend the Mass along with a special thank you to Sister Christine and Father Giroux for also making it possible for us to have reserved seating at the Mass. Sister Christine said, “It was inspiring to participate in this Holy Mass where so many were witnesses in faith to Jesus Christ.”
