On Friday, April 5th, 2013 the Akwesasne Epilepsy Support Group held a chicken bbq benefit fundraiser. The newly formed support group is raising funds to donate to the Epilepsy Foundation via a Virtual Walk here in Akwesasne on April 20th and for future projects to be planned throughout the year, but most importantly to help raise awareness to a condition that so many have here in Akwesasne!

We would like to send out a huge THANK YOU to the following for their generous donations: Big E’s for the great chicken bbq, Brass Horse for the use of the hall, Carson Mitchell for the donation of water and soda, Twinleaf-gift basket, Akwesasne Puppy Style Dog Biscuits-gift basket, T-19 Sports-girls lacrosse stick, Heart to Heart Fitness-gift card, Laura Tarbell-Pilates video, Indigenous Spa-gift certificates, Akwesasne Sports-boys lacrosse stick, Dunkin’ Donuts-coffee and mug, Tarbell Mngt Group-gift cards, Carson Oakes-movie gift basket, Marsha White and family-Keurig set, Melissa Morales-Princess House, Carrie Jacobs-Silpada jewelry & Bath & Body gift sets.  Also, a big thank you to everyone who came out to help: Wanda Jacobs, Nancy Jacobs, Cami White, Jeremy Campeau, Ronnie Rochefort, Halle Lazore, Kahontiio Lazore, Montana Jacobs, Dustin Oakes, Carson Oakes, Lauren White, Marsha White, Dave Mainville, Indian Time, CKON and to everyone who came out to buy a chicken dinner!  The winner of the 50/50 raffle was George Gray.

The Virtual Walk will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013.  This is a day where hundreds of teams will walk together in Washington, DC and thousands more will walk ‘virtually’ throughout the nation, in their hometowns, to bring awareness and raise funds to fight a condition that affects 1 in 26 people and has no cure.

The support group would like to hold the walk at the Tewatahitha Walking Trail near the SRMT Senior Center in Hogansburg, NY. We are looking into a secondary place in case of inclement weather.  Anyone can join us in this ‘Virtual Walk’ for a great cause by registering on our team page at http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org!  You can also contact Carrie Jacobs with help on how to register at 315-705-1130 or carriejacobs3@aol.com.   It is on our Facebook page, Akwesasne Epilepsy Support Group, and on different team member’s pages. Please join the fight to find a cure!
