Looking for Community Representation

from the Districts of Kanatakon and Tsi Snaihne

Shekon Sewakwekon Akwesasronon

As part of the Entewatathá:wi process, the evolution of a Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Governance Code will occur. Guidance from the people of Akwesasne on the drafting of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Governance Code is being continued. An Akwesasne Governance Code Committee (AGCC) has been approved and set in effect by MCR 2012/2013-#176. This MCR has approved the establishment of the AGCC to assist and provide community input in the development of a Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Governance Code.

The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Entewatathá:wi (“We Will Govern”) Program is looking for community minded individuals to sit on the Akwesasne Governance Code Committee. Previous Call Outs to the community, allowed for the recruitment of two members from Tsi Snaihne and significant representation from the district of Kawehnoke. But, there are still vacancies on this Committee.

Further recruitment is needed for:

• 2 Elders (55 years and older), one from each District

• 1 Community Member (30-54 years) from Kanatakon

• 2 Youth (18-29 years), one from each District

This is a large task and it is anticipated that the time to complete the drafting of the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne Governance Code will be June 2015. A minimum of 2 evening meetings per month are projected and participation in various community presentations may also expected.

If you are interested please do not hesitate to contact either Angie Barnes or Shara Francis-Herne at the Entewatathá:wi Program CIA#3 or call 613-575-2250 ext. 1056 or ext. 1058. We look forward to responses from community members to represent Tsi Snaihne and Kanatakon by Monday, February 4th, 2013.
