They would like to extend a grateful “thanks” to all others who donated but did not leave their name and to anyone The Stuff the Bus Campaign missed. The organizers mentioned how upset they were over the fact that they were not able to hand out a backpack/school bag for every request made. Because of this, they would also like to apologize to any student who did not receive a bag. Donations were down at least 25% percent this year, unlike last year where they were able to give a backpack/school bag to every child who requested one. Bags went to students attending Salmon River Central School, Akwesasne Mohawk Board of Education School, Massena Central, CCVS and the Akwesasne Freedom School. Plans are already underway to make next year’s campaign even better, with the economy slowly getting better they are hopeful they will be able to meet all requests made for the 2013 school year. The organizer also expressed the real reason for doing this campaign is to get every child a great start, not only on the first day of school, but for the entire year. They also hope local businesses and organizations understand the need to prioritize education over sports in Akwesasne. Many times The Stuff the Bus Campaign was competing with sports teams over donations. If Akwesasne could open that small window between summer and fall sports and squeeze in the Stuff the Bus Campaign in-between, everyone would walk into fall a winner.
