St. Regis Recreation Holds a Family Fun Day

Backwards kickball tournament in progress.

St. Regis Recreation held a family fun day on Sunday, August 5th. Laura Thompson said, “We are having our family fun day today, because there is a civic holiday on Monday, and MCA had theirs on Friday. We have rented out water-slides, and bouncy houses, all from local businesses. We have free food –hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, drinks and watermelon for everyone.”

Waverley Thompson, Layla Adams-King, Ariana Oakes, and Destiny Lazore enjoying the water slides.

They were also giving out door prizes. “We have a bike for a girl and a bike for a boy, as well as a family packages and a 150$ gift certificate to get their family photos done from Gardline Photography. Rachel comes right to your house and will do your family photos and everything,” Thompson said. At noon they held a backwards kickball tournament where “everything is backwards.” Players run to third base, second, first, and then home. The tournament is for the kids’ sake, so there had to be more kids on the team than adults. If a player wanted to play infield, they had to face outfield until after the kicker kicks the ball. They changed the rules up a little bit and made it more fun for kids. This year, the St. Regis Rec. and National Child Benefit Funds sponsored Family Fun Day. Thompson said, “This is our second or third year doing it, last year we had 200 people or so. I think the weather scared people because we had that downpour this morning, but we have water slides so everyone is going to get wet anyway, so we’re all like well we’re still doing it!” Bellybuttons the clown was supposed to be there for face painting, but during the time I was there, she had not arrived yet.

In the future they have other activities planned such as canning classes, coupon classes, moccasin making, and fan making.
