A sever thunderstorm packing wind gusts estimated up to 80 miles an hour are what caused the disastrous situation on Tuesday for many towns across the North Country and into Vermont. Potsdam was hit the hardest as several buildings had extensive damage, with some having their roofs ripped off. Trees, some very large, were also reported to fall on buildings, cars and across roadways. Thousands were without power and Time Warner Cable services were also out. Potsdam had called a state of emergency on Tuesday night but it was lifted Wednesday morning. Large hail was also reported. There were no reports of damage in Akwesasne and there were no reports of serious injury anywhere from the storm.
