Tetewatska:hon Green Food Bag Program

At Kanatakon picking up the fresh produce. Thank you to Caroline, Melissa and Candi! L to R: Caroline Peters-Community Support, Shirley Jacobs-community elder/patron, Melissa-volunteer, Candi-Community Health Rep., and Deb Cook-patron.

The Tetewatska:hon Green Food Bag Program offers bags or boxes of fresh produce once a month for just $10. This month it included romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, celery, cucumbers, bananas, apples, oranges, and pears. All this in a grocery store would probably cost you $25-$30 dollars. Each month there is a different selection because what they offer is based on the season and what they can purchase from the supplier. In June they might have watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, peaches, and cherry tomatoes. This program was started over a year ago and they now purchase about 200 bags of produce. You have to pay ahead of time so if you missed May you can pay for June at Kanonhkwa’tsheri:io. Distribution is mid-month: Snye and Saint on Tuesday and Cornwall Island on Wednesday.

A box full of goodies, it doesn’t get much fresher than this!
