A Voice from the Eastern Door

My Favorite Elder Contest

The Office for the Aging is putting a spotlight on the important role elders play in sharing their experience, wisdom, and understanding, and passing on that knowledge to other generations in a variety of significant ways. We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual “My Favorite Elder” writing contest which will coincide with the National theme for Older Americans Month which is: Never too Old to Play!

All community members are invited to participate and their essay should include the following:

• Feature at least one living elder aged 60 or older.

• Describe why the Elder inspires you, and how the Elder embodies the theme of Never too Old to Play! Through their lifelong, spirited participation in service organizations, social, creative, physical activities, or other activities.

• If applicable, describe significant relationships with a grandchild or young person, and how this relationship helped the young person to shape their values, goals, and life choices and gave them a sense of identity and roots.

Essays are to be no more than 500 words in length and are to be submitted to the Senior Center at 29 Business Park Road, Hogansburg, NY 13655. You may also email your essay to lpeters@srmt-nsn.gov with the Subject Line as “My Favorite Elder”. Entry deadline is by 4 pm April 26th. Winners will be notified on the 27th.
