The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Spring Home & Leisure Show this past weekend at the Cornwall Civic Complex.  79 businesses registered for the show, including one Akwesasne business Better Your Home Design.

“I come here every year to see what new businesses are around and services I can get for my home. Last year I found the company that I purchased my security system from. It was great to see an Akwesasne business at this event.” Stated Dwayne Thomas, an Akwesasne community member who attended with his family.

The participating businesses of the show ranged from masonry work like Gilden Wood Stone Works and Cornwall Concrete, to interior designers like Better Your Home Design and Dream Design, to other services like dog training with Shannoncourt Dog Training and Nutrizoo Nutritional Animale.  Just outside of the Cornwall Civic Complex cars and RVs were on display.

“It is always encouraging to see Akwesasne businesses participate in our shows as they are very much part of our community” says Chamber President Rick Shaver. “We also would like to encourage businesses and community members to join us next year at this great show. Everyone benefits when we work and showcase our businesses together.”

“My family helped me to put together my display and it took us about a day and a half to do. The work was well worth it, last year I know that over 8,000 people attended the event over the course of the three days and traffic so far has been pretty steady.” said Alexandra David who is the owner of Better Your Home Design.  “Things have been getting busier for me lately with spring coming around.  I’m getting a lot of work for outdoor landscaping and working on curb appeal now.”

In addition to the many vendors and promotions from the businesses over the weekend there was also an Indoor Long Drive Championship sponsored by 94.7 HITS FM. Mitchell Terrance an Akwesasne Youth took home the trophy for the Junior Division in the Longest Drive Competition.
