Pill-related phone scam?

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe reported this week that there may be a phone scam occurring in the community related to prescription drugs.

A community member recently reported to the tribe that they received a phone call last week during which they were asked to participate in a survey. The caller allegedly wanted to know what type of prescription drugs were in the household. The community member refused to answer the questions over the phone and instead asked for a written survey. When the written survey did not arrive, the community member became more suspicious and contacted the tribe’s pharmacy.

Possibly the purpose of the phone call was to determine whether or not the household had any prescription drugs of any interest to the caller, such as Oxycontin, the tribe suggested. Community members are being asked to safeguard their prescription drugs against theft. Community members are also asked to be vigilant about answering any questions regarding the type of prescription drugs present in the home.

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department has been notified of this phone call. If you or someone you know receives a similar phone call please contact the tribal police department at 358-9200.
