The Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Science Fair was held on Nov. 9, 2010 at the Kana:takon School. The winners of the Akwesasne Fair advance to a national competition.

Judges from the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, St. Regis Mohawk Tribe, IBM, St. Lawrence River Institute, Salmon River Central High School and the Ahkwesahsne Mohawk Board of Education volunteered their time and expertise to act as judges.

Ten students will be traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico to enter into the American Indian Science and Engineering Society’s National Science Fair at the end of March. All expenses are paid for the students. They are Tehaienkwarentohs Thompson (Best in Fair), Iakonhnhiio Cook, Kameron LaFrance, Tianna Francis-Forgues, Drake Adams, Kobe Skidders, Maya Swamp, Brandee King, Kamryn Ransom, and Daphne King.

The Kana:takon School Student Council operated a concession stand and raised nearly $700 that will be donated to the science fair committee. The committee members of Lynn McCarthy, Tami Kroon, Debbie Terrance, Adam Schrader, Debbie Beck, Rhonda LaFrance, Ruth Seymour, Iris Caldwell, Mindy McLeod, Lisa Francis-Benedict and Barry Montour worked diligently to ensure that the fair was once again a huge success.
