Multiple contraband tobacco seizures and arrests made by Cornwall Regional Task Force

(CORNWALL, ONTARIO) – The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) made or assisted in contraband tobacco seizures in the following regions between July 21st, 2010 and August 12th, 2010:

2 seizures at the Cornwall, Ontario Port of Entry

10 seizures in Cornwall, Ontario

5 seizures in South Glengarry, Ontario

These seizures resulted in the arrest of eleven individuals who face charges under the federal Excise Act 2001 and/or the provincial Tobacco Tax Act for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped:

3 from Cornwall, Ontario,

1 from Akwesasne, Ontario,

1 from Akwesasne, New York,

1 from Summerstown, Ontario

2 from Kahnawake, Quebec

1 from Brockville, Ontario

1 from Addison, Ontario

1 from Athens, Ontario

And also resulted in the arrest and charges of the following six individuals:

David Rickard (age 42) from Gatineau, Quebec

Jason Lee MacGregor (age 26) from Cornwall, Ontario

Christopher Cameron (age 27) from Cornwall, Ontario

David Wayne Campbell (age 37) from Cornwall, Ontario

Todd Harold Lamothe (age 42) from Cornwall, Ontario

Tekaratanken David (age 19) from Akwesasne, Ontario

Items Seized:

• 10 vehicles described as 2004 Chrysler Sebring, 1999 Dodge van, 2002 Chevrolet Express van, 1999 Chevrolet Suburban, 2002 Jeep, 2000 Chrysler Town and Country, 1999 Plymouth Voyager van, 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, 2005 Chevrolet C4500 Duramax Diesel truck, 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck

• 3 vessels described as a 6.71 metre Chriss Craft runabout boat, a Checkmate power boat with a Mercury 150 Pro Max Sport outboard motor, a 7 metre Sundowner cuddy boat with an inboard motor

• 5 trailers described as a 13 metre Blair trailer, a utility box trailer, two boat trailers and a home built flat trailer

• 16,329 re-sealable bags or cartons each containing 200 contraband cigarettes

• 705 kilograms of fine cut tobacco contained in 10 hockey bags and 50 garbage bags

• 6 grams of marihuana

• 30 cans of Coors Light beer

• $425 Canadian currency
