Hemlock Store demolished

A landmark homestead in the village of Kana:takon (St. Regis) was demolished this weekend, leaving a giant hole in the ground and in the hearts of many who grew up visiting the Hemlock Store. The old Hemlock homestead at the corner of St. Regis Road and First Street was torn down and cleared out as owner Jimmy Hemlock said it was too old to fix up anymore. He estimates that the house was built in the late 1800s and for many years until the mid 1970s it was a general store.

Hemlock said he has no immediate plans to construct anything new on the lot but if he does so in the future any building or house won’t be placed as close to the corner as the previous house was.
