A Voice from the Eastern Door

Three Feathers Internet Café – Now open!

A new establishment in Akwesasne is up and running this week, offering an assortment of services and goods to cater to just about anyone. Three Feathers Internet Café is not only the new headquarters for Rez Phones, but it’s also the newest breakfast and lunch counter and Internet café, offering high speed Internet.

The café is owned by Phillip Gray Jr. and his wife Valene, both of whom have been busy in the past month getting their new business open. The café is located at Truckstop #9 on Route 37 in the former location of Sunrise Bakery. The renovated and expanded store space is trendy and roomy.

Three Feathers Internet Café is a four-in-one business. First, Rez Phones provides customers with all of their cell phone needs. While the Boost Mobile company hit a stone wall in Akwesasne with no fix in sight, Rez Phones has picked up a new carrier, Page Plus, which has a $40 per month unlimited phone and texting plan. Rez Phones still sells 2-way phones and Boost minutes but the calling out feature for Boost has been impacted and unless Boost builds a tower nearby the problem isn’t likely to be fixed. Rez Phones continues to sell 2-way phones that can be used with Telus accounts as well.

The second feature of the café is the café counter itself, which prides itself on homemade items. Two homemade soups will be served daily, corn soup every day and one other changing soup. Fresh sandwiches are prepared by order on homemade bread and soon there will be an array of already made sandwiches for those customers on the go. The café serves Tim Horton’s coffee and Green Mountain products, along with fresh smoothies, muffins, pies, and salads. In the morning they sell breakfast sandwiches and parfait, and occasional homemade doughnuts.

“Once we’re developed we want to expand the menu a little more,” said Valene Gray.

The third feature of the café – and where its name comes from – is the Internet and computer services provided. Customers can purchase Internet minutes and use one of the Three Feathers Internet Café computers or they connect using their own laptop and wireless service. The price is $8 for an hour, which can be broken up by the minute for as much or as little time as needed. Unused time can even be saved for use on another day.

“If you want $2 worth, you can get $2 worth,” said Phillip Gray Jr.

Finally, the fourth feature of the café is paid use of a Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii. A large screen TV and leather couches complete the lounge area of the Three Feathers Internet Café.

Four-year-old Bentley Gray, son of Phillip Jr. and Valene, explained why customers would go to Three Feathers Internet Café: “To eat. To get a phone. To use the Internet. To get their phone fixed.”

Three Feathers Internet Café is open seven days a week, Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. They can be reached at 518-358-6764.
