A Voice from the Eastern Door

Racing to Save Lives

SE:KON (HELLO) Welcome to my Team In Training home page.

My name is Michele Micki King. I’m training to participate in the Marine Corp Marathon, October 25th, 2009 in Washington D.C, as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I am completing this event in honor of a very special boy, “Tai River Thompson”, from my community, Akwesasne, in upstate NY/Canada.

Tai is a twin, he and his sister Piper were born on March 26, 2007 . He also has an older sister, Odyssey, she will be 5 in September (Three siblings pictured in lower left). At about 15 months Tai started showing symptoms of regressing in his physical development, he was just about walking, then he started moving in slow motion, everything he had learned at this point was getting difficult for him to do. He was also getting pneumonia often. The doctors finally did an MRI in January 2009 and he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor (glioma). In February 2009 he started radiation treatments for 6 weeks. The radiation treatment was able to shrink the tumor which was good news. He is slowly getting a little stronger, right now he is able to walk with a walker, and in the last two months has started crawling.

Tai and many other brave individuals are battling cancers every day of their lives. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!

Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance LLS’s mission.

I hope you will visit my web site often.

Be sure to check back frequently to see my progress. Thanks for your support!
