The Egg Snatchers strike again-Easter Fun

The Easter Bunny with Cecelia Cook.

It was 2 p.m. on Easter Sunday and the location was at the ‘T’ in Tsi Snaihne. If anyone were to pass this residence their eyesight would be speckled with flashes of dotted colors.

Sheila Jacobs creates so much fun for her family, friends and neighbors at an annual event at Easter time. It takes a special kind of person to provide this kind of unselfish enjoyment for others. She gets herself going by 6 a.m. as she scatters the thousands of eggs across her yard…front, back and in every corner of the yard. This year she placed 5,345 eggs down for the ‘runners’.

Here is a bit of history to give you a better understanding of this joyful gathering. In 1994 Sheila decided that she didn’t want to cook Easter dinner anymore, instead, it evolved into an outside barbeque and began with a family egg hunt. At that point there were 8 children and 60 eggs. The following year, 100 eggs and more children. Every year since then there has been an increase in children and eggs. The children who started in the first years of searching are now bringing their own children to be the egg gatherers. It has grown from a small event to a huge one. One of the amazing parts to all this is that Sheila goes back out each year to make sure everyone gets a prize for their efforts in the egg hunt.

All the egg gatherers on Easter afternoon.

There are categories set in place so each person has a chance to ‘gather’. Under the age of 5, there were 573 eggs collected, age 6-10 there were 1120 eggs, and 11-teens had 2115 eggs collected. There is a time limit for each age group also. Now, the adult group had no rules and their children were allowed to help them pick up the remaining eggs. Sheila’s secret…this is how the lawn gets all picked up again.

The participants have really looked forward to Easter each year and her nieces have stepped right up to help as much as they can. Everyone loves it! Even when the temperature was 42 degrees that day. It’s fun for people of all ages, especially with the hippity hopping of the famous Easter Bunny that has joined the crew.

Niawen to Sheila and her mom, Cecilia Jacobs, for providing so much enjoyment for so many.
