AKWESASNE - Mr. Allen D. Jacobs, 59, 394 Frogtown Road, died Thursday (January 29, 2009) evening at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, after being transferred from Fletcher-Allen Medical Center, Burlington.
He was born April 19, 1949 at the family home in Hogansburg, the son of the late John A. and Rita C. Barnes Jacobs. He attended Mohawk Grade school and graduated from Salmon River Central School in 1969 and attended SUNY Canton. He first married Sandra Phillips on November 29, 1969 at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Francis Arsenault, S.J., officiating; the marriage ended in divorce. He later married Erica Square, which also ended in divorce. On July 30, 2004, he married Joanne Blackmer at the Veteran’s Memorial Park Gazebo in Massena.
Allen worked as a highway maintenance supervisor for the New York State DOT, Massena Station, where he retired after 27 years of service. At one time he worked for Atlantic Testing and Driscoll Restoration. He also drove truck for JR Fuels in Hogansburg. He was a Sub-Chief for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe from 1979 - 1980. Allen also was an avid stock car race fan. He owned #49 Pro-stock driven by Billy Woodward, Jr. He also worked at the Frogtown Speedway as an announcer, Tech Inspector, and Security. He and his wife enjoyed taking their camper to many NASCAR races. He also enjoyed cookouts with his friends and family, working on cars, and “terrorizing” his grandchildren. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
Allen is survived by his wife, Joanne; by 3 children, Cory Jacobs and his wife, Twyla, Cornwall, Ontario; Allena Jacobs and her husband, William, Akwesasne; Nolan D. Jacobs, Akwesasne; 2 stepchildren, James Blackmer, Oklahoma; Sherry Blackmer, Akwesasne; by his godchildren, Hilary Jacobs and Kim Russell; his grandchildren, Kayanna, Tobias, Ashley, Riley, Elgin, Casey, Emily, Nate, Chris, Missy, Buster, and Chubby. Also survived by 2 sisters and their husbands, Jennifer and Mark Garrow, Akwesasne; Marjorie and Robert Richardson; New Jersey, by 2 brothers and their wives, Robert L. and Julie Jacobs, Akwesasne; Casey T. and Agnes “Sweets” Jacobs, Akwesasne; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends called at the home of his brother, Casey, 350 Frogtown Road, beginning Monday until a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at the St. Regis Catholic Church, with Rev. George H. Belgarde, SJ, officiating. Cremation will follow.
