There is a dolphin in Florida named "Winter" who has a prosthetic tail. She's getting big and cannot live in the wild anymore. I saw this fundraiser to win a trip to Florida to meet Winter as many handicapped children go there. I am wondering if you can help me get my dream to see Winter by this fundraiser. We would like to know if...

  • THE SRMT HAS STOLEN MY LAND -

    Oct 31, 2013

I’m writing to inform the community of the illegal wrong doings that the tribal chiefs, Ron Lafrance, Paul Thompson and their legal department Michelle Mitchell have done to me. On December 12, 2012, my mother Agnes Bero signed her house and land over to me. She did this with a clear mind. I was then given the deed to the house and property. The tribal Deed was signed, stamped and recorded with the SRMT Tribal Council. Everything was done legal and my deed was fine for months. In February 2013, I received a phone call from Corleen Jacco i...

  • PROCEED WITH CAUTION

    Oct 31, 2013

Letter to the editor OCTOBER 27, 2013 PROCEED WITH CAUTION During the past few weeks, I have come to the conclusion that the Grand Chief did a commendable job in deflecting my letter concerning third party management, if in fact it was written by the Grand Chief, and not one of his subordinates. The response has even made it to the monthly newsletter Onkwe’ta:ke. Why are not the concerns that are raised at district and general meetings raised in the newsletter? Why are issues that are raised by the membership not raised with the entire c...

  • FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS/ANSWERS ABOUT CHILD ABUSE

    Oct 31, 2013

•Is it only abuse if it’s violent? Answer: Physical abuse is just one type of child abuse. Neglect and emotional abuse can be just as damaging, and since they are more subtle; others are less likely to intervene. •Is it only ‘’bad people” that abuse their children? Answer: While it’s easy to say that only ‘’bad people’’ abuse their children, it’s not always so black and white. Not all abusers are intentionally harming their children. Many have been victims of abuse themselves, and don’t know any other way to parent. Others may be struggling...

  • Basswood Best for Wood Bass

    Oct 31, 2013

Paul Hetzler, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County Having received my first pocketknife at age ten, I wasted no time in launching my career as a famous sculptor. How hard could it be, I thought, and gathered a pile of two-by-four lumber scrap ends which to carve. Thinking I should warm up before producing a Remington-inspired bucking bronco, I set about to make a fish. Fresh from a rigorous Sharp Object Safety Class (“Always cut away from yourself. OK, have fun.”), I was careful with the blade. However, that lumber was tou...
