A lot of awards were given out last Friday at the Akwesasne Mohawk School. All grades were included in the assemblies, with 2 classes winning the Stanley Cup and a pizza party for having the highest averages. Certificates, charms and prizes were also given out for perfect attendance, reading, birthdays, winning broomball teams, character recognition for generosity and native art student awards. On Tuesday May 13, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service in conjunction with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police held an event to celebrate Police Week. Police week is celebrated nationally in Canada and this year the theme was "Building Community Partnerships." Class Olympics has become a wonderful, spirited tradition for the St. Regis Mohawk School students and is looked forward to each year by the pre-kindergarten through fifth grades. Students get a chance to compete against each other for bragging rights and the coveted sock monkey trophy. The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is in the process of updating the existing logo for the organization. A logo contest is currently underway and all submissions have been accepted. MCA has selected four finalists for the logo contest and would like to ask the community to select the winning logo. The winning artist will receive a $500 prize.
