The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is aware that there is growing concern within Akwesasne and neighboring communities regarding an event that was being proposed for this Saturday, November 9th. It entails a bridge demonstration that may take place at the Three Nations Bridge located in the territory of Akwesasne. Tyson L. Gonyou, 26, of Hogansburg is jailed on a felony count of second-degree assault. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Gonyou allegedly stabbed Demetri A. Lafrance, 22 multiple times in the torso in the early morning hours of Sunday, Oct. 27 at 237 Raquette Point Road. He was taken by ambulance to Massena Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released. They were trying to purchase Camp Gabriels, a former minimum-security prison camp, and convert it to a center to teach and preserve Native American language, culture, history, and heritage. On November 2nd, 2013 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service received a call of a missing person who was last observed visiting a residence in Akwesasne, New York. It would seem to me that we need to look at the retention policies in place. CKON Radio is continuing to phase in repairs to the radio tower equipment and wants the community to know why they have been off the air again. Recently, RComm has been climbing the tower for repairs to the transmission lines and, while on top of the tower, found other faulty or broken equipment that requires repair or replacement. A basket making class with instructors Sheila Ransom and Judy Cole finished up on Sat. Nov. 2nd. It started on Oct. 9th and was held every Wednesday and Saturday at the St. Regis Recreation sponsored by the Akwesasne Elders and Quilt Club of Kanatakon.
