    (January 9, 2018) AKWESASNE – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Compliance Department recently completed an investigation into the improper sale and distribution of New York State-issued cigarettes from mid-October to December 1, 2017. The investigation found that three licensed vendors conducted transactions that did not comply with the established tribal approval process, which prevented local businesses from having access to major brand tobacco products.     The Mohawk Council (MCA) recently established a Cannabis Working Task Group with the first meeting being held on December 14, 2017.     According to a recent ruling Ottawa Superior Court can continue to reject the use of police and court transcripts as evidence from survivors who attended St. Anne’s Indian Residential School in their student-on-student compensation claims The ruling, issued by Justice Paul Perell on Jan. 4, decided the courts could not force Ottawa to admit to abuse under the terms of the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement. They completed in the Warrior Game tournament in Cattaraugus with 12 runners and 2 goalies.
