SRCS Sports Review - Lacrosse Varsity Teams Post an Historical Week

 

SRCS Athletic Director, Shawn Miller, presented Boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach, Jim Barnes, a plaque congratulating Coach Barnes on his 100th career win at SRCS.

Boys Lacrosse SR-15, Watertown-3

This win marked the 100th win for Salmon River Coach Jim Barnes over his six years as head coach. His overall record, at the time of this win, is 100-5. The five losses did not happen against an NAC regular season or Section 10 playoff opponent.

The score at halftime was a close 3-2 lead for the Shamrocks but by the second half the Shamrocks shook off their bus legs and got to work scoring seven unanswered goals in the third quarter. Russ Oakes led the Salmon River attack with three goals and four helpers. Isaiah Skidders (1 assist) and Trenton Tarbell netted three goals apiece while Skkylar Thomas struck for two goals and four assists. Skye Sunday, Bryton Burns, Lakota Square and Alan Jacobs rounded out the scoring with singletons. Troi Benedict stopped 11 shots for the win while Austin Gibson made eight saves for Watertown.


SR-19, SLC-2

The Shamrocks went out on the field fired up and ready to work and scored seven goals, two being short handed, and they never looked back as they went on to win 19-2. Russ Oakes scored first with a shorthanded goal and then went on to score another in less than minute later. Oakes scored one more and set up three. Lakota Square scored next with a shot from the crease to put the Shamrocks 3-0. Skkyar Thomas, Dante David, Trenton Tarbell and Oakes joined in and all scored first quarter goals to put the Shamrocks at 7-0 in the first 12 minutes of the game.

At half time the Shamrocks were leading 12-1 when SRCS Athletic Coordinator, Shawn Miller, took time out to present Coach Jim Barnes with a plaque commemorating his 100th career win. "I would like to congratulate Coach Barnes on his record-setting milestone" said Miller. "And I hope that there will be plenty more wins in the future".


Russ Oakes, Trenton Tarbell, and Bryton Burns each scored three goals for the Shamrock win. Lakota Square added two more goals while Skkylar Thomas netted a goal and three helpers. Skye Sunday, David Mitchell, Norman King, Raienteres Oakes, Tanner Tarbell and Iothore Lazore all added singletons. Goalkeeping duties were shared by Troi Benedict (4 saves) and Korbin Lazore for Salmon River. Kody Kocsis (3 saves) and Trent Dow (2 saves) worked the crease for the Larries.

SR-19, Saranac Lake-1

Coach Jim Barnes and the Salmon River Varsity boys' lacrosse team ended its 2015 NAC regular season at home in true Shamrock style with a 19-1 win over Saranac Lake. The win gives Coach Barnes his sixth consecutive undefeated season and 102 wins. The Shamrock's record stands at 12-0 and 14-0 overall.


As with all the last home games of the season this was a time to say thank you for the hard work and dedication of eight seniors-Thomas Benedict, Tyren Boots, Myles Delormier, Chad George, Russ Oakes, Lakota Square, Skye Sunday and Trenton Tarbell.

Skylar Thomas ( 5 goals) and Russ Oakes ( 4 goals) combined for nine of the 19 Salmon River goals. Trenton Tarbell and Raienteres Oakes struck for three goals each. Lakota Square, Alan Jacobs, Dante David scored single markers while Tanner Tarbell, Iothore Lazore,and Bryton Burns tallied solo helpers.


Salmon River enters the Section 10 Class C playoffs as the top seeded team and will host a playoff game on Tuesday, May 19, at 5:00 against St. Lawrence Central.

The Section 10 Class C championship game will be held at 7:00 p. m. on Thursday May 21, at SUNY Canton. The girls Class C title game will take place before the boys game at 5:00 p.m.

The Salmon River Girls Varsity

Lacrosse

SR-15, Mass-3

The Lady Shamrocks dominated the Massena Red Raiders from the beginning to end in the last home game of the season to win 15-3. The win put the Salmon River girls' varsity lacrosse team in the SRCS history book as the first team to win the girls NAC regular season title. The team also produced its first undefeated season in its five years in existence.


The game had the sweet side as well as a brief bitter side. The last home game signaled the celebration and goodbye of nine seniors. Recognition was given to each senior for her hard work and dedication to the team and to the parents for their love and support. The seniors are Sequoya Chubb, Tsiotenhariio Herne, Shawnee Oakes, Kiera Pyke, Kiana Thompson, Kyra Thompson-Douglas, Morgan Thompson, Victoria Thompson and Kahawis.

Eight grader, Mirabella Lazore, led the Shamrocks with three goals and three assists while teammate Victoria Thompson struck for three goals and two assists. Kyra Thompson-Douglas (1 assist), Chrissy Benedict and Tsiotenhariio Herne broke through for two goals each. Trysten Burns, Jacelyn Lazore and Kiana Thomspon added single markers. Courtney Manley, Kyrsten Stone and Devin Kelly scored for the Lady Raiders. Dava Thompson stood tall between the pipes as she turned aside nine saves while Felicity Love and Giselle Todd shared goaltending duties for the Raiders for a total of five saves.


SR-11, Pots-9

A stifling defense in the second half allowed the Lady Shamrocks to take control of a close game and go on to a 11-9 victory over Potsdam at home. The Shamrocks worked to a 7-5 halftime lead but it became a nail bitter early in the second when the Lady Sandstoners evened up the score, 7-7. Salmon River kept Potsdam to only two more goals in the second half to claim the close victory. The Lady Shamrocks' record improves 11-0.

Jacelyn Lazore led the Shamrock charge with five goals and an assist. Mirabella Lazore (2 assists), Trysten Burns (1 assist), and Chrissy Benedict (1 assist) netted two goals each while Jillian Benedict generated an assist. Hannah Drechsel and Kalie Grant tallied four goals apiece for Potsdam. Allie Compeau added a single goal while Peyton Warden logged an assist. Marcella Thomas stopped six shots for the win while Katelyn Bloom turned away 16 shots for Potsdam.

SRCS Golf

The Salmon River boys varsity golf team hosted Clifton-Fine at Cedar View Golf Course in Helena. The Shamrocks took points in the first, second, fourth and fifth pairings while dropping the third to give them a 4-1 win over C-F. Myles McDonald outshot Aden Szlancynski 41-48, Evan Swamp beat Austin Malone 48-60, Rasentonkwa Tarbell downed Eric Szlancynski 50-57 and Jacob Bero beat CJ Kerr 50-58. Matt Peabody edged out OttoThomas 50-51. In non- scoring duos, Brandon Burdash dropped Logan Lutz 51-69 and Reese Jacobs(SR) and Zara Northup (C-F) both shot rounds of 66.

Softball SR-11, Canton-4

Brittany Brooks drives the ball to centerfield against the Canton Bears. Brooks had three hits, two doubles and two runs.

Canton came out in the first to score two runs but the Lady Shamrocks answered back with a four run inning and they never looked back. Salmon River scored two more in the second and fourth and finished off with a six run sixth to win 11-4. Brittany Brooks earned the win on the mound by striking out eight Canton batters and hit three for three at the plate, including a double and two runs scored. Jenny Dejung and Kera Ghostlaw added two hits while Ghostlaw singled in two runs in the second and finished with three RBI, while Dejung drove in two to contribute to the win. Ali Hart, Katrina Oakes, Lauren Martin, Tiffany Connors and Abby Farley tallied singles for the Shamrocks.
