Massena Inducts Hall of Famers

 

Above are Massena's 2023 Sports Hall of Fame inductees. They include lacrosse standout Erin Francis, long-time physical education teacher and multi-sport coach P. Jeffery Slack, Kaleigh Zappia and members of the 2004 and 2006 volleyball teams.

Massena High School inducted two teams and several individuals into their Hall of Fame. They recognized them at halftime during the Raiders' game against Malone, which they went on to win 42-18.

One of the inductees was Erin Francis, class of 2013. She was a three-sport athlete for the Raiders and finished her career receiving the Massena Central High School Female Athlete of the Year Award. Francis was a member of the girls soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. This earned her the Massena High School Letter "M" Award. Erin's career on the lacrosse team was outstanding from 2010-13. She was the captain in 2012 and 2013. During her career she was honored with the following

awards: Watertown Savings Bank Athlete of the Week, Section X First Team, All-Northern Girls Lacrosse 2010-13, Section X Girls Lacrosse MVP 2013, Massena Central Girls Lacrosse Offensive MVP 2012-13 and Massena Central Lacrosse All Time Points Leader for Boys and Girls with 493 total career points.


Francis led Massena to the Section X Championship in 2010-13, when she also played basketball and soccer. She was captain of both teams her senior year. Both teams were Class A Section X Champions. Erin was Section X Second Team All-Northern in soccer her senior year.

Also inaugurated were the 2004 and 2006 volleyball teams.

The 2004 team finished with a 16-3 record. They were tri-champs in their division and second place overall in Section 10. The players included Mallory Truax, Marcy Lannis, Tracie Cook, Alexia Strzalka, Ashley Thompson, Sharlie McLean-Krywanczyk, Katie Trautmann, Lindley Cook, Sara Roundpoint, Kanentahawi Delisle, Maegan Thomas and Julianne Skidders. Their coach was April Charleson.


The 2006 team finished with an 18-2 overall record, claiming the East Division championship and finishing second place overall in Section 10.

The team included Hannah Callahan, Katie Jock, Sara Roundpoint, Jenn Roundpoint, Lindsay Ortman, Cara Terrance, Maegan Thomas, Kylee Thomas, Lindley Cook, Mikayla Thompson and Rebecca Harvey. Their coach was also April Charleson.

Saturday Sept. 23, Hall of Fame football game, Massena 42 Malone 18 – The Massena Raiders secured a 42-18 victory over the Franklin Academy Huskies during their Saturday afternoon clash in Massena.
