ASEVC – Jaden Barnes-Sharrow Memorial Banquet Agenda

The Akwesasne Soaring Eagles Volleyball Club (ASEVC) held their year-end banquet in honor of the late Jaden Barnes-Sharrow. The memorial volleyball bequest was held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Winter Ballroom.

Opening remarks and the evening's master of ceremony was none other than Benjamin Herne.

Olivia Papineau did a lanyard blessing and Waylon Cook and Mary Gray recited the Ohenten Kariwentkwen.

MC Benjamin Herne made a special presentation to the late Jaden Barnes-Sharrow for Memorial Most Valuable. While dinner was being served, several guest speakers included Volleyball Canada representative, Marie-Christine Rousseau, MCA Kawehno:ke District Chief Vincent Thompson, and playing a dual role - SRMT Sub-Chief Ben Herne.

Marie-Christine Rousseau presented in memoriam – Memorial Support Awards to Jaden Barnes-Sharrow, Jay Benedict, Annette Armstrong, Lisa Jacobs, and Mary Gray.


Vince Thompson presented Soaring Elders Awards to Donna Delormier, Anna Delormier, and Coach Kahnastatsi Jacobs.

Chef de Mission, Barbara Thompson presented NAIG Chef De Mission to Kahnastatsi Jacobs, Wendy Adams and NAIG Representative Clarissa Jacobs.

Janisa Benedict-Martin presented ASEVC 2022 – 2023 Team Recognition to 9u Olivia Papineau, 13u Kinsgly Thompson, 19u Kevi Papineau, Coed 4x4 - Tyler Sunday & Sabrina Sunday, Women's Competitive - Tatum Lafrance, Senior Women's Recreational - Tara Zomer-Mason, and Coed Competitive - Leslee Loran, & Hatti Lazore.

Iakowine Oakes presented the National-International Team Representation to Teams 12u coach Iakowine Oakes, Bailey Thomas, Tatum Lafrance, Tianna Back, Tori Skidders, Feryn King, Taylin David and 17u coach Janisa Benedict-Martin, Jaden Barnes-Sharrow, Waverli Thompson, Logan Mitchell, Shayla Oakes, Jackie Benedict, Josee Sunday and Tewennine Delormier.


Ciera Jacobs presented the ASEVC Builders/Foundation Award to Felicia Jacobs, Barb Thompson, Kahnastatsi Jacobs, Lisa Francis-Benedict, the late Jay Benedict, Bears Den-Tarbell's TMG, Thomas Marina , CKON, SRMT, MCA, the American Legion, Lisa Jacobs, Annette Armstrong, Romaine Mitchell, Vincenette Cook, Melissa Oakes, Allison Healy, Cheryl Jacobs, Heather Garrow, Vincent Thompson, Jeannine Lazore, Benny Herne, and Ciera Jacobs.

Waylon Cook presented the ASEVC Officiating Award to Gabby Durant and Delany Durant.


Chelsea Francis-Swamp presented the ASEVC Coaching Staff, 1993 -2023 to Kahnastatsi Jacobs age 5-75, Romaine Mitchell 16u, Janine Lazore 16u, Cheryl Jacobs 16u, Vince Thompson 19u, Paul Buckshot Women's Heather Garrow 19u, Barb Thompson 12u-17u, Chantel Francis Beason, Tanya Jacobs, Nichell Sunday, Benny Herne, Iakowine Oakes 13u-19u, Chelsea Sunday 14u & 19u.

Marie-Christine Rousseau presented the ASEVC 2022-2023 Volunteer of the Year Award to Kathleen Papineau.

MC Benjamin Herne presented the ASEVC President Life Award, President's Lifetime Award to be granted to a recipient who has contributed a minimum of 2,000 hours dedicated to Akwesasne Soaring Eagles Volleyball Club and exemplifies dedication and commitment to youth volleyball within Akwesasne. This award went to Felicia Jacobs, Kahnastatsi Jacobs, Barbara Thompson, Lisa Francis-Benedict, Iakowine Oakes and Chelsea Sunday.


Waylon Cook closed the ceremony by reciting the Ohenton Kariwehtakwen.

Dimitri LaFrance, aka Uncle Bubba Entertainment keep everyone thoroughly amused and filling the room with laughter for the remainder of the evening.
