On October 18, 2018 Iohahi:io Akwesasne Adult Education welcomed Karla Ojeda Delgado, a St. Lawrence College Social Service student, and Jody Souka-Marleau, St. Lawrence College's MA Coordinator/Professor, into their Multiculturalism, Mohawk Language, and Culture class taught by Instructor Crystal Bay. This course is part of the two year Mental Health and Wellness Program offered at Iohahi:io. There are currently 30 students enrolled in the program.

It was important for Instructor Bay to give her students the opportunity to meet someone from another country and to celebrate ethnic diversity. Miss Ojeda Delgado treated the class to a two hour presentation on her home country, Venezuela. She shared stories from her life in Venezuela and touched upon the subjects of history, government, politics, currency, tourism, food, sports and culture. At times her presentation was charged with emotion as Ojeda Delgado also shared the widespread struggles of famine, lack of adequate health care, and poverty that many of her compatriots endure on a daily basis. Her openness and readiness to share her life's story with this group of students is sure to leave a lasting impression on each of them.

Niawenko:wa Karla Ojeda Delgado for sharing your unique perspective with our students!
