WALLACE MITCHELL

 

AKWESASNE – Wallace Patrick Thomas Mitchell, 67, of 1478 State Route 37, unexpectedly passed away Sunday afternoon, October 14, 2018 at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Wally was born March 17, 1951 in Cornwall, Ontario, the son of the late T. William Sr. and Anna Mae (Herne) Mitchell. He attended Salmon River Central School, where he graduated in 1969.

Wally was an ironworker for many years with Local #440 until his retirement. After his retirement, he owned and operated his construction company in Akwesasne. Wally was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved mowing his lawn, sitting on his porch, watching car racing, and was truly devoted to any work he was able to do on his Kubota tractor. Throughout the years, Wally enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren at their various sporting events.

Wally is survived by his children, Patty (Wilson) Ransom, Leigh-Ann (Paul) Sawatis, and Raun Mitchell, and their mother, Martha (Caldwell) Mitchell, all of Akwesasne. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Krystian (Evan), Brady, Jordy, Kamryn, Toryn, Briley, Kasey, Alexia, and Kayle; and his great grandchildren, Hayden and Vayla.


Wally is also survived by his brothers, Wayne (Betty) Mitchell and Wesley (Deborah) Laughing; his sister, Wanda (Robert) Patterson; his sister-in-law, Peggy Mitchell; and many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Wally was predeceased by two grandsons, Trey Mitchell McDonald and Raun Mitchell Jr., his brother, William "Billy" Mitchell, and his loving companion of 14 years, Charlene Cole.


Friends may call Saturday, October 20th, 2018 from 4-6:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where a prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM. Burial will be held privately.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Service, St. Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department, or Hope Lodge in Burlington.
