The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne welcomed representatives from Canada's business and economic development sectors on June 28, 2017 to have discussions on Akwesasne's needs, priorities and special projects related to economic development.

Victor Severino is the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Business Climate and Funding Administration Division of the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth. He was joined by Akin O. Alaga, a public sector executive, who develops the Government of Ontario's economic strategies.

Staff from MCA's Dept. of Tehotiiennawakon presented and joined in discussion along with portfolio chiefs for economic development and the Grand Chief. The group toured Akwesasne, focusing on business and development, and also stopped to have a presentation from local businessperson Lewis Mitchell of Seven Leaf, a medicinal marijuana venture.
