CKON Seeking Student Readers

CKON radio is starting a story-telling program to air at approximately 3:30 to 3:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer months. Varying ages of storytellers are required and each reader must be a current student between the ages of 10-18. The stories will be read in English and some stories in the Mohawk language. All segments will be pre-recorded to allow for editing and to ensure the story fits into the allotted time. The stories will focus on Native American culture including such topics as ceremonies, Native American symbols, Grandparents, legends and myths, etc.

Students must be a strong reader and able to speak clear and fluently. Students wishing to participate will be required to complete an application with an essay on why they want to participate and submit to an audition to determine how their voice comes across on the air. The program will begin airing July 5, 2016. Students will be notified when to come in for their audition. Upon completion of a successful audition students will be given a recording date to come in to read and record. The student selected will read for both sessions for one week. Students who participate will receive a $10 gift card from a local business. Applications are available at the CKON station and online at http://www.ckonfm.com. The deadline is May 31, 2016. For more information please contact Diane McDonald, General Manager at 518-358-3426 or 613-575-2101.
