Niawen to Charlie and Genevieve Peters for sharing this story with our readers

In the March 26, 1963 issue of "LOOK" magazine, (which by the way cost .25 cents), a story was done on New York City and part of that story featured Mohawk Ironworkers. Mickey McDonald and Winston Delormier worked in the raising gang on The New York Hilton at Rockefeller Center according to the magazine.

An excerpt from the article:

The young men in these pictures are Mohawk Indians. Their tribe has a tradition of producing the world's finest high-steel workers. More than 100 of the high-steel men in New York City are Mohawks from various northern U.S. and Canadian reservations. Naturally, these men are proud of their standing in the construction business.

"People say all kinds of things about how Indians make the best steelworkers because they inherit some kind of nimble-footed-ness. I don't know anything about 'inherit,' but Indians ain't chicken. They'll get up there and try anything. They walk along on those beams like they're on the sidewalk." Mickey McDonald told the reporter.
