AKWESASNE CULTURAL RESTORATION COMMISSION

 


The Natural Resource Damage Assessment Program, on behalf of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (SRMT), Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) and the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs (MNCC), is pleased to announce a call for individuals interested in becoming members of the Akwesasne Cultural Restoration Commission.

The Commission’s role is to oversee the implementation of the Cultural Restoration Plan; review annual reports provided by participants to ensure the accountability of persons and institutions that are employed, funded or are otherwise part of the work funded through the Cultural Restoration Plan; and, ensure that annual program performance reviews are conducted and that adaptive management is practiced to ensure the success and sustainability of the Cultural Restoration Plan.

All members, including appointees of the Councils, must meet the following criteria to serve on the Commission:


1. Must be recognized as Akwesashró:non by SRMT, MCA or MNCC and reside in the community

2. Must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age

3. Must be knowledgeable about Akwesasne history, culture, tradition and language

4. Must not have been convicted of a felony in the United States within the past ten years

5. Must not be an employee of or participant in the Cultural Apprenticeship Program

6. Must not be a recipient of institutional funding from the Cultural Restoration Plan

Guidelines and applications are available at the Community Building reception desk, Environment Division reception desk, Mohawk Nation office, and Mohawk Council Admin I reception.


The deadline for receipt of applications will be September 27, 2013 – No Exceptions will be allowed, late submissions will not be accepted. Completed applications are to be delivered to the Environment Division reception desk or you can call Wahiahawi Barreiro at 358-5937 ext.119 to have your application picked up.
