Call Out for Community Trustees!

 


Due Date for applications: September 27th, 2013 4:00 pm

The Mohawks of Akwesasne Settlement Trust Internal Technical Team is seeking applicants to serve as Trustees for an initial four-year term. Candidates for Community Trustee for the Mohawks of Akwesasne Settlement Trust must:

· Not be in un-discharged bankruptcy or insolvency;

· Not have been adjudged mentally incompetent by a court of competent jurisdiction;

· Agree to complete Introductory Level Trustee Accreditation Training through the National Aboriginal Trust Officer’s Association, or equivalent;

· Not be a serving member of Council, or agree to resign from Council if appointed;

· Agree to submit to a criminal reference check in both Canada and the U.S .;

· Certify in writing to become a party to, and be bound by, the terms of the Mohawks of Akwesasne Settlement Trust and to faithfully and to the best of his or her abilities, carry out the duties of a Community Trustee;


In addition to the aforementioned criteria, the candidate must also demonstrate:

· Knowledge of the Kanienkehaka culture and the Akwesasne community

· A commitment to learning, or enriching his/her knowledge of, the Kanienkeha language

· Knowledge, understanding and commitment to the role of Community Trustee

· Honesty, integrity, ethical conduct and common sense

· The ability to maintain objectivity, fairness, accountability and operational transparency

· Knowledge of issues and needs within the community of Akwesasne

· Ability to identify areas where specialized knowledge might be required and willingness to seek specialized advice when needed


· Willingness to fully commit and participate in, the operation and administration of the Trust
