STATUS: Full-Time (up to 40 hrs./week)

SALARY: $10.00/HR

START DATE: July 1, 2013 (Position ends on August 16, 2013)

The Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club is seeking TWO (2) energetic and creative individuals to work in a fast paced summer program. Commuting post-secondary students are encouraged to apply.

The Program Assistant will work in cooperation with other team members in the implementation of interactive activities in a specific program area catering to the club member’s interests, such as Education & Technology, Health & Life Skills, Sports & Recreation, Arts & Culture, and Character & Leadership. The philosophy of the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club is to create a safe and positive environment while providing educational and culturally relevant programs geared to meet the needs of local youth, focusing on self-responsibility, maturity, and growth.


KEY ROLES:

Create a safe and positive environment for Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club members ages 6-11 years old who will be participating in the ABGC/JOM summer activities between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Promote, encourage and stimulate program participation

Provide guidance and role modeling to members

Promote participation in special programs and/or events such as field trips, celebrations and community events.SKILLS/EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

High School diploma or GED.

Experience in working with children.

Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.

Knowledge and understanding of Akwesasne community, values, traditions and social norms.
