CSX PLANS NEW INTERMODAL FACILITY IN QUEBEC

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – January 25, 2013 – CSX Corporation (CSX) and its transportation and intermodal terminals subsidiaries announced an expansion of the company’s intermodal presence in the greater Montreal region and Quebec.  CSX’s intermodal terminals subsidiary will build a new 36-hectare (89-acre) intermodal rail terminal in the City of Salaberry-de-Valleyfield in Quebec, connecting the region with CSX Transportation’s (CSXT) 34,000-kilometer (21,000-mile) rail network in the United States. “This Regulation is intended to ensure that American Indians and Alaska Natives have full access to the programs and services offered by the Department,” said Vilsack. “To achieve this goal it is essential that all agencies of USDA engage with Tribes in timely and meaningful consultation on policies that directly affect one or more Tribes.” The project is expected to create about 600 jobs during construction and lead to the creation of more than 300 permanent jobs when completed. There is also talk of an expansion to the Massena Station. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2013 and the terminal is expected to open in 2015.

PHASING OUT THE CANADIAN PENNY

On Monday, February 4, 2013 the Royal Canadian Mint stopped distributing pennies. Businesses are encouraged to begin rounding cash transactions. The cent will remain Canada’s smallest unit for pricing goods and services. This will have no impact on payments made by cheque or electronic transactions—only cash transactions will be affected. Moreover, pennies can still be used in cash transactions indefinitely with businesses that choose to accept them.

POSTAL SERVICE ANNOUNCES NEW DELIVERY SCHEDULE

Six Days of Package Delivery, Five Days of Mail Delivery Begins August 2013

February 06, 2013 – Washington - The United States Postal Service announced plans to transition to a new delivery schedule during the week of Aug. 5, 2013 that includes package delivery Monday through Saturday, and mail delivery Monday through Friday. The Postal Service expects to generate cost savings of approximately $2 billion annually, once the plan is fully implemented. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.

The Postal Service is making the announcement more than six months in advance of implementing the five-day mail delivery schedule, to give residential and business customers time to plan and adjust. The Postal Service plans to publish specific guidance in the near future for residential and business customers about its new delivery schedule.

Once implemented during August of 2013, mail delivery to street addresses will occur Monday through Friday. Packages will continue to be delivered six days per week. Mail addressed to PO Boxes will continue to be delivered on Saturdays. Post Offices currently open on Saturdays will remain open on Saturdays.
