Walter F. White

 

Hogansburg: Walter F. White, 70, passed away on Dec. 13, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born on July 10, 1942 in Massena, the son of Elwood and Evelyn (Durgeon) White. He attended and graduated from St. Lawrence Central School in Brasher Falls, and entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era following in the footsteps of his father and brothers. He worked for Cappione Distributor and Akwesasne Cultural Center Library and Museum.  He also worked for Ohserase Manufacturing  until the time of his stroke in October 2002. On November 4, 1967 he married Patricia Garrow at St. Regis Catholic Church in St. Regis, Quebec. He was a member of Andrew W. Cook American Legion Post #1479 and the St. Regis Mohawk Senior Citizens. He was an avid baseball player in his younger years, having been nicknamed “Shoestring”. Walter is survived by his wife Patricia, his children: Katrina and husband Dennis Armstrong; Tina and husband Mathew Langdon; Brendan White; Jason White and companion Marion Mitchell; Kimberly and husband Clinton Atkins, all of Hogansburg. He was the loving grandfather of 19 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Legault in 1994 and three brothers, Elwood Jr.  in 1966, Robert in 1996, and Bruce in 2002.


Calling hours were held on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15th and 16th at Phillips Memorial Home in Massena until a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday Dec. 17, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hogansburg.
