Protecting the Earth for the next seven generations

We are not the owners of the soil or the Earth, but we are dependent upon the Earth for our survival. It is our responsibility for its protection so that successive generations of our People and the other Nations of Creation will continue to receive sustenance from the Earth in the same way that we have. It is our duty to take into account our actions and impacts upon the next seven generations. Each successive generation has that responsibility. It goes on in perpetuity. The responsibility never ends.

We need to encourage those whose philosophies make the same commitment to the environment, and are similarly concerned about how our actions today impact upon the future of the world environment. Here are some things we can do at home within our own Communities to protect the Earth for the next seven generations:

Get our youth involved in Earth Day and other environmental activities.

Encourage ourselves and our neighbors to free our lawns from pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals.

Praise those who allow the medicine plants and other indigenous plant life to grow on their lawns and properties.

When thinking about building, take into consideration the needs of the elements of Creation. How will this new construction affect the habitat of birds, animals, plants and tree life.

Relocate plants and trees, whenever you can, instead of cutting them down.

Plant groundcover, trees and flowers that are indigenous to this environment.

Encourage those agencies who maintain roads and highways to stay away from pesticides, herbicides and defoliants on roadside grasses, plants and trees.

Plant indigenous trees and plants that help to hold in the embankment of rivers.

Recycle household disposables; give them to your schools to reuse in classroom projects.

Know your environment, learn their names and appreciate all they contribute to the family of Creation.
