Tribe's Environment Division ready to assist with heating fuel spills

Submitted by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe

The winter season deserves special attention by Akwesasne homeowners/property owners with heating oil tanks located along the outside of their homes or businesses.  The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Environmental Response Team urges everybody to carefully remove the overhanging snow and ice from roofs, especially in areas where the heating oil tanks are located.  This will reduce the risk of the heavy snow and ice from knocking over the tank or breaking the fuel line and causing a fuel leak.  If community members have any questions or need to report a spill, they can contact the Tribe’s Environment Office at 358-5937 or MCA’s Environment Office at 613-936-1548.
