SRC Athlete Students for June 2010

The last athletes to receive student athlete recognition for the 2009-2010 school year are a male and female chosen by their coaches in the sports of baseball and track and field.  They have each received their certificates and were photographed as well.

In the sport of baseball, and selected by his coach Ben Barkley, Nick Smiddy was given the athlete honor for the month of June for his skills in baseball.  Nick is a senior athlete on the boy’s varsity baseball team.  Nick recently won the Section 10 East MVP award for the 2010 campaign.  He batted .538 with 22 hits and 17 RBIs.  Thirteen of his 22 hits were for extra bases, which included 8 doubles, 4 triples and a homerun.  He led the league in every offensive category: hits, doubles, triples, and a home run.  On defense, Nick was stellar second baseman with soft hands, great range and an accurate arm.  To top it off, Nick also went 3-1 as a pitcher with 21 strike outs and only 3 walks.  He also picked up 3 saves in reliefs.  He batted a staggering .793 in the final six games of the season which all ended in victories.  He helped propel the game from 6th in the league to a 3rd place finish.  You can see clearly why Nick is the Athlete for the month of June.

For the month of June, Sara Spaulding has been selected by her coach Whitney Smith in the sport of Track and Field.  Sara finished her career at Salmon River in Track and Field with her best performance ever in the Pentathlon at the Sectional meet earlier this month.  Sara scored a total of 2015 points and finished second at the meet.  Her efforts also earned her a place and a trip to the State Championships.  Sara has been an active member of the Salmon River’s Track and Field program throughout high school and because her versatility she was one of the team’s top contributors.
