Chad Campeau takes a fierce stance inside the ring at the Standing Rock Boxing Club.

Standing Rock Boxing Club, located on 50 Main Street Massena, NY, is owned by Atsiaktonkie and opened its doors in May 2009. On July 3, the Standing Rock Boxing Club is hosting its first major amateur boxing event, the Brawl at the Mall, at the St. Lawrence Centre Mall Arena in Massena, NY, to premier some of its up and coming boxer as well as feature some of the best of the best from New York and Canada.

The boxer to watch will be the 12 year old boxing protégé Lolo. Lolo has been boxing over this passed year in the sub-novice weight class and his picture can be seen on the event posters during his second fight ever at the New York State Fair against his 15 year old opponent. Lolo won that fight with a knock out.

“Lolo, he is doing awesome,” said Chad Campeau, Lolo’s coach and two time New York State boxing champion who hails from the East Side Champs in Cornwall, ON. “He has a lot of potential.”

Campeau will also be competing in the Brawl at the Mall event and is looking forward to his time in the ring.

“I want to make it a good fight,” said Campeau. “I like to keep the audience entertained. Its never a boring fight when you watch me.”

Jean Gibbson is another fighter coming out of Standing Rock Boxing Club scheduled to compete at the Brawl at the Mall that is sure to excite the audience. At 17 years old, Gibbson is preparing for her first amateur fight to be held on Jun. 26 at Bonnie Castle Recreation Center in Alexandria Bay, NY.

“I am excited and nervous,” said Gibbson about her upcoming debut fight. “I’m just worried about the losing part. But, I have faith in my coach to teach me the skills not to lose.”

Also scheduled to be joining her comrade in Alexandria Bay, dependent on a suitable opponent, is Mary Herne.

“I am a little nervous,” admits Herne. “But, excited because it seems like its not an opportunity a lot of people get to do, to say hey, I used to be a boxer.”

Both Gibbson and Herne have been working diligently in the gym to prepare for their upcoming fights. Herne is not scheduled to be participating in the Brawl at the Mall.
