Free bird

For more than two weeks Baby T has been home sick. The only good thing about it was he got his wish to stay home. I shouldn’t have him out in this weather and he needed his rest. Only thing was it didn’t seem like he got too much rest. Trading his naps for quiet time was about as close as a breather I could get.

Friday night rolls around and his Tota girl picks him up to spend the weekend at her house. He was almost all the way dressed before she came over and he was so ready to go see her. He pretty much hasn’t been over to see them since he got sick. He might as well have been quarantined. I went to bed early that night and enjoyed sleeping in. I didn’t even have to cook for anyone. Just get up and do whatever I wanted. The plan was he was supposed to stay until Monday but we were invited to a birthday party so we went to get him one day early.

Come to find out they got him to go places while he was at their house and when he saw mommy and daddy he yelled at us to leave and that he wasn’t ready to go home yet. Wow…could he have changed that much in two days? We went straight to the birthday party that was at the aquatic center in Cornwall. Then Monday I asked Baby T if he wanted to go to the movies and he said yes! Not a “No, me stay home”

We were the first ones to buy a matinee ticket. I was glad I was early for the show because immediately after we got to the concession stand the line up at the ticket booth got huge. I knew there was no way Baby T would have made it through that wait and thankfully I didn’t have to be trying to chase him and save my spot in line at the same time.

He got a little bag of popcorn and fruit smoothie. We sat where he picked and waited for our movie to start. Since it was the national holiday in Canada the movie theatre was packed with parents and their children. Sadly, I always mentally prepare myself for the worst possibly behavior from Baby T. I say sadly because when he surprises me with him being an extremely big boy I feel sad that I assumed he would not be a willing participant.

I am hoping a few nights ago did the trick in helping him be good at the movies. I was trying to take him to the movies then and we stopped at Wal-Mart with his girlfriend (my friend who he is madly in love with) to waste some time until the movie started. But as soon as we walked through the doors he took off running and I spent the whole ten minutes I was there running after him or carrying him against his will and getting evil glares from other customers. I’m used to it and they can stare all they want. I know I’m little carrying a three year old that’s almost the same size as me. And it will be an even bigger attraction when he’s six or seven and I have to pull him out of a store. But I will do it whenever he doesn’t listen and hopefully my body can handle carrying him until he grows out of running away from me.

So we watched The Water Horse with a movie theater full of other little kids and made it almost through the whole movie. The reason we left early was because Baby T said he was tired and wanted a cheeseburger. I drove us over to McDonalds and let him play for a good hour before dragging him out there. He was tired when we left the movies so I wanted to make sure he didn’t get overtired and stay awake instead of take a nap. He fell asleep on the ride home and as I sat in line at customs I couldn’t help but wonder am I a free bird now? Did we actually just go some places that aren’t only our home? I’ve been on three good outings with Baby T since I picked him up at Tota Girls yesterday and I am amazed. Let’s hope that the two weeks Baby T spent holed up with his mommy made him sick of staying home and want to be a free bird. As far as spoiling him… if he wants to go to the mall and just run, I’m up for it at this point. So when he decides to go through the whole hermit phase again I’ll be ready to be a homebody by then.
