Kana:takon School Students attend Drug Awareness Lecture

Students at Kana:takon School attended a Drug Awareness lecture presented by Youth Services Officer Constable Nicole Miller on Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 in the Kana:takon School Cafeteria. Students from Grades 7 and 8 were spoken to about illegal and prescription drugs that are prevalent in the area. Pictures of illegal drugs such as Marijuana, Cocaine, Crack, Methamphetamine, LSD, GBB, were shown to the students and they were also shown the physical, psychological, and emotional affects of each drug. An awareness for prescription drugs were shared with the students and the teachers to help further educate them as to the dangers that can come from taking doctor prescribed medication that is not prescribed to the student.

This lecture was in conjunction with the belief between the Ahkwesashne Board of Education and Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service’s stance on making the schools drug free and safe for the future leaders of Akwesasne.
