Fire In Clarkson University Laboratory Quickly Extinguished

The Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) and Rowley Labs had alarms activated when an automatic dialer alert was received by Potsdam Fire on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. Fire Driver Matthew Kroeger promptly took Engine 49 out of duty. About 0804, Engine 49 arrived on the scene and connected with Clarkson Security. After the alarm was investigated and the building was searched, it was discovered that one of the laboratories had a fire that appeared to be restricted to a garbage can. With an ABC extinguisher on hand, Fire Driver Kroeger rapidly put out the flames. Fire Driver Kroeger requested a second alarm and additional personnel to the scene due to the volume of smoke within the facility. R-14 was carried to the site by firefighter James Corbett, and additional personnel arrived. The lab was cleared of smoke, and the alarm was successfully reset. Clarkson Security was given the scene so they could investigate. At 8:53, all units were once again in use.

Indian Time spoke with Potsdam Assistant Fire Chief Jason Farnsworth who said, "It was just a small trashcan fire, we confined it right to where the trashcan was. It was just smoke conditions and that was it."
