Indian Time - A Voice from the Eastern Door

Cornwall: Shannon Ashley Francis Sylvester, 50, native of Akwesasne, passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at 11pm at the Ottawa Civic Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Shannon was born March 27, 1972 in Syracuse, NY. The daughter of Geraldine (Jacco) Jacobs-daughter of predeceased, John Robert Sylvester. Stepdaughter of James (Dewey) Jacobs. Shannon is survived by her children: Danielle (29), Cheyanna-rae (Jeff) (27), Maddox (13) with longtime partner Chris Sabourin. Two beautiful grandchildren, Maverick and Nova-Rae Sylvester, of Cornwall, guardian to her 6 year old nephew, Kastian Sylvester. Survived by her caring siblings, Anson, Allan, Jaime, and Robyn Jacco and Brandon Sylvester. Paternal siblings, Michelle and Mike Rolfe, Stacey Cook, and Raven Sylvester. Remembered by her uncle, Donald Jocko, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by her maternal Totas, Francis Xavier (Frank) and Cecelia (Sharrow) Jacco: Paternal Totas, Dave and Cecelia (Delormier) Sylvester. Predeceased by her aunt, Pauline Cook, uncles, Henry and Albert Jocko. Paternal aunt and uncle, Mary and Tom.

Graduated from St. Lawrence College, Cornwall, and went on to Queen's University, Kingston, obtaining a degree in psychology. Her deep desire and dream was to introduce psychology in the early childhood years to the students of Akwesasne to help them to cope and learn life's skills. Shannon was also volunteering to prepare cooked meals to distribute to the homeless.

Resting at Lahaie and Sullivan West Branch, 20 Seventh Street West, Cornwall, where visitation was held on Wednesday August 31, 2022 from 2 – 4pm and 7 – 9pm. Cremation was to follow. Messages of condolences may be left at www.lahaiesullivan.ca
