SARAH M. DAVID ROCKWELL "KASENAHAWI"

 

SNYE- Sarah M. David Rockwell "Kasenahawi", 90, peacefully passed away on Saturday night, August 27, 2022 at IAKHIHSOHTHA Home for the Elderly in Tsi Snaihne.

Sarah was born on March 19, 1932 in Syracuse, daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Terrance) David. She married Donald Rockwell on April 30, 1948 in Syracuse. The marriage ended in divorce. She attended Syracuse schools and was a self-employed housekeeper. Sarah was dedicated to her children and other people who came into her life. She had the best smile in the world! She was a true Wolf Clan mom.

She was a member of the Akwesasne Death Benefits Group, and enjoyed word searches, playing bingo and was a Champion Paddleboarder. She was very artistic and loved to draw, sew and make crafts. Most of all she treasured her family and the time she spent with them.

Sarah is survived by her children, Valerie Cook of Onondaga Nation; Sarah Munnell of LaFayette, NY; Donna and Nelson Jock of Akwesasne; Peter Rockwell of Onondaga Nation; Summer Rockwell of LaFayette, NY; Abner Rockwell of FL; Jerome Rockwell of FL; and twin brothers Matthew Rockwell of FL and David Rockwell of Onondaga Nation; 39 grandchildren; 96 great grandchildren; and 11.5 great great grandchildren; and her sister Winifred (Joseph) Cerra of Jamesville, NY.

Besides her parents Peter and Sarah, she was predeceased by two sons, Donald Rockwell, Jr., and Vincent Rockwell; her siblings Walter David, Albert David, Thomas David, Helen Paro, Louise Brown, Anne King and Ruth Hill; and her companion Ed Shenandoah.

Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Tuesday from 4-7PM. A funeral service for Sarah will be held at the Mohawk Nation Longhouse on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Solomon Road Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Sarah's memory to the IAKHIHSOHTHA Home for the Elderly or the Mohawk Nation Longhouse.
