Letter to the Editor

Hello,

Since 2002, the best Indigenous bantam and midget hockey players* in Canada have been gathering every year to participate in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships. The next edition of the championships will be held from May 7 to 13, 2023, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC) is responsible for coordinating the women’s and men’s teams of Eastern Door and the North (EDN), both of which will be representing Quebec at the championships. The FNQLHSSC is currently looking for certified Indigenous coaches and managers to volunteer to recruit, train and guide these players.

In addition to coordinating the selection camp in early January, the selected coaches and managers will provide support to the athletes on a remote basis while they are training and make sure they do not neglect any of the necessary paperwork (registration, school letter, payment, etc.). Coaches and managers must also be available to travel to Winnipeg from May 7 to 13. For a better idea of the duties and responsibilities associated with these positions, interested individuals are invited to read the corresponding role descriptions.

It is important to note that all staff and athletes will need to be properly vaccinated against COVID-19 to be included in the team (proof of vaccination required). The Host Society or Team EDN may also implement additional measures to ensure the health and safety of all participants.

We would ask you to share this information with your respective groups.

Candidates are invited to submit their applications by 4 p.m. on September 16, 2022, using this link: https://form.jotform.com/222084931247051. Chosen candidates will be interviewed.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jonathan Dubé at jdube@cssspnql.com or 418-842-1540, ext. 2710.

Thank you for your cooperation.

*Athletes born between 2005 and 2009 (please refer to the 2023 Technical Package to confirm the years).
