Phillip "Philly" Thomas Terrance - Karoniate
Phillip "Philly" Thomas Terrance, Karoniate, 66, of Akwesasne passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 25, 2022.
Philly was born on June 7, 1955 in Rochester, NY to the late Sandra (Diebow) and Phillip Terrance. He graduated from Salmon River Central School and started work as an iron worker at age 17. He joined the union in 1974 and worked on numerous projects in New Hampshire, Michigan, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the local 440 where he served as President for 9 years. Some of his jobs include the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, the St. Regis Mohawk Tribal building and LaGuardia Airport. Philly was a member with the Iron Workers Union for 48 years.
He helped manage The Rez, a local arcade and dance hall and later opened Iawekon Pizza which he operated with his family for several years. Philly enjoyed the outdoors, cooking, boating, working, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed working on home projects during his time off.
Philly is survived by his children, Kathleen Terrance, Isaac (Jamie) Terrance, Jamie (Cory) Jock, Robyn Terrance (Trevor Skidders), April Terrance (Dylan Miller), all of Akwesasne; 15 grandchildren, Blaze, C.S. Kash, Blade, Kuylin, Isaac Jr., Sophia, Winter, Temperance, Cory Jr., Ella, Embry, Trevor Jr., Adleigh, Willa and Elowen; his sister, Jessica Terrance of Akwesasne; a sister in law, Tina Terrance of Akwesasne and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by the mother of his children, Mary Papineau; a son, Phillip Terrance Jr.; a sister, Cindy Smoke; a brother, Scott Terrance and a grandson, Richard "Dickie" Oakes, Jr.
Friends are invited to call at the home of his sister, Jessica Terrance, 30 Herne Road, Akwesasne starting on Friday, April 29th at 4:00 pm until the time of service on Monday, May 2nd at 11:00 am.
