Salmon River nets easy lacrosse wins over Canton, Plattsburgh; Massena lax wins over Plattsburgh & Heuvelton

The Salmon River Shamrocks downed the Canton Golden Bears 13-4 on Thursday, April 14.

Hawi Cook-Francis opened scoring 3:23 into regulation. Crayton Cree scored three minutes later. Two more goals off the sticks of Warren Oakes and Kyden Burns left Salmon ahead 4-0 after the first quarter.

Josh Aldous put Canton on the board 45 seconds into the second frame. Thirty seconds later, Cook-Francis and Oakes scored, followed by Burns to make it 7-1. Kaden Baxter and Nolan Bombard then scored for Canton, cutting their deficit to four goals. Alex Delormier scored before the halftime buzzer, putting the Shamrocks back out to a five-goal advantage.

Burns scored two more goals in the second half, followed by Golden Bear Jonney McLear, leaving the score at 10-4 going into the closing stanza.

Kade Herne scored in the middle of the fourth quarter, follwed by Francis punching in the final two goals of the game.


Also on Wednesday the 13th, the Massena Raiders beat Plattsburgh 16-2. Jayla Thompson, Brooke Terry and Hailey LaShomb all netted hat tricks.

On Tuesday, April 12, the Shamrocks girls contingent defeated the Plattsburgh Hornets in a home field win.

Joryan Adams scored a game-high four goals with three assists. That included her 200th point as a Salmon River varsity lacrosse player. Jianna Lazore scored three times with five helpers. Ariyah Lafrance scored three goals while Tallis Tarbell punched in two.

Iohserrio Tabor scored twice, including her first varsity goal. Kaidence Sunday also scored her first varsity goal, assisted by Lazore. Salmon River goalie Kimora Swamp turned aside seven shots. Plattsburgh netminder Sophia Brown tallied six saves.


The same day, the Salmon River boys also beat Plattsburgh, by 14-1. Hawi Cook-Francis sparked the SRC offense with three goals. Tehanerahtaiens Barnes, Taharihwakohe Lazore, Warren Oakes and Ethan Seymour scored two goals apiece. Goaltenders Sakaronhiotane Thompson and Xavier Delormier each made three saves.

Also on Tuesday the 12th, the Salmon River baseball squadron took a mercy-rule win over Malone 17-4. The ‘Rocks sent 17 runners to home plate on 11 hits. The Huskies had six hits with seven errors.

Caiden Cartier, pitched five innings, walking six, striking out four and giving up two earned runs off of six hits.


Kade Cook (four runs scored) and Dylan Johnson (three RBIs) each tallied three hits in four at-bats.

Malone’s Jordan Perry went 3/3, scored two runs and batted an RBI. Perry started pitching and gave up six earned runs through 2 1/3 innings off of seven hits and three walks, and struck out four batters.

After trailing Salmon River early, Franklin Academy softball beat the Shamrocks, 24-8 on the road, in six innings. The Huskies scored 12 runs in the top of the fifth to break the game open and three in the top of the sixth to impose the mercy rule on Salmon River. Salmon built a 5-3 lead going into the top of the fourth inning but ended up being outscored 6-2. Malone followed the six-run rally with 12 runs in the fifth inning. Salmon River’s Leyla Snyder went 3/4 batting, Neely Henhawk went 2/4, Mia Leroux went 2/2 and Makenna Manson went 2/5. All four of them scored one run.


In lacrosse action on Tuesday, April 12, the Salmon River boys beat Plattsburgh 14-1, the Massena girls downed Heuvelton 20-9 and the Salmon River girls

In the Shamrocks boys team win, Hawi Cook-Francis led the charge with three goals. Tehanerahtiens Barnes, Taharihwakohe Lazore, Warren Oakes and Ethan Seymour scored two goals each.

In the Massena game, Jeanelle Burke scored six goals for Massena and Ava Murphy scored six times for Heuvelton. Massena’s Jayla Thompson and Hailey Lashomb each tallied a hat trick.

In the Salmon River girls victory, Joryan Adams fashioned four goals and helped set up three other plays. Jianna Lazore scored three goals with five assists. Ariyah LaFrance scored a trio of goals with a helper.


The same day, Massena’s baseball team defeated Potsdam 13-4. Brennin Snyder hit the ball twice, which included a home run. Brendan Finnegan also had a pair of hits.

On Monday, April 11, Ogdensburg beat Massena in softball by a 15-7 final score. Blue Devils pitcher Bailey Friot struck out 12 Raider batters. Massena’s Isabelle Wilson connected for two singles and a double.

On the same day, the St. Lawrence Central Larries beat Massena in boys lacrosse 16-4. Massena’s Aronhaiwaks Rice, Takaronhiotakie Thompson and Kyden Jacobs all scored a goal with one helper. Brasher’s Jayden Ashley scored a game-high six goals and four assists. His teammates Zach Strawser and Collin Sirles both tallied hat tricks.
