Kateri Tekakwitha

The third miracle

Submitted by Victor Martin

A first class relic of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha is to be presented to the Saint Regis Mission at the 4pm mass on April 23". A first class relic is a body part of a Saint, such as bone, blood, or flesh. Second class relics are possessions that a saint owned, and third class relics are objects that have been touched to a first class relic or those the saint has personally touched.

A relic of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha was used by Sister Kateri Mitchell to cure a young boy of flesh-eating bacteria. Doctors had advised the parents that he was not expected to live. His cure, after being touched by a first class relic of Saint Kateri, was used as the third miracle that lead to Kateri's Canonization on October 21,2012 at Vatican City by Pope Benedict XVI. The cured boy, who surprised on-lookers, made a presentation at the final mass of the 2012 Tekawitha Conference at Auriesville, N.Y.

Sister Delia Mitchell, who presented the first class relic at the Vatican's' 2012 canonization liturgy, will be present at the 4pm mass at the St. Regis Mission Parish.
