Angus "Randy" Bigtree, 71, of St. Regis Road, passed away Friday afternoon, November 5, 2021 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness.
Randy was born on March 24, 1950, the son of the late John Jr. and Catherine (Garrow) Bigtree. He attended Mohawk School and graduated from Salmon River Central School. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1972-1975. On July 29, 1989, he married Caroline M. Laughing at St. Regis Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Egan, officiating.
Randy was an ironworker, working with Local 823 in Montreal for a time before becoming a security guard with the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino for 5 years. Randy enjoyed riding on his Harley-Davidson, boating, maintaining his lawn, watching classic movies, reading, playing pool, and a good barbeque. As a younger man, he enjoyed muscle cars and sitting on the porch of his mother's home listening to music. His family and friends will fondly remember him for his quick jokes and nicknames of all his family.
Randy is survived by his wife, Caroline; his children, Juanita and William Arquette of Massena; Guinevere Frost of Hogansburg; and Nicole and Graden "Duffy" Palmer; his grandchildren, Theodore, Taylor, Joseph, Angelina; Rachel, Jeffrey, Matthew, and Savannah; his great grandchildren, Ayanna, Taya, Bella, James, Drystan, Trinity, Markee, Cailyn, Hunter, Julia, Jeffrey Jr., and Jasmine; his sisters, Mary and Raymond Cooke of Akwesasne; Lou Ann Paquin of Akwesasne; and Frances and Rinaldo Charles of Escandido, California; his brothers, Larry M., Joseph and Roberta Bigtree, Patrick, Norman, and Charles Bigtree, all of Akwesasne; and Robert Bigtree of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena beginning at 11:00 AM Thursday until 6:00 PM. A prayer service will be offered at 4:30 PM with Rev. Jerome Pastores, officiating and a rosary service will begin at 5:30 PM and conclude the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider donations in his memory to the Akwesasne Mohawk Ambulance Service, who the family kindly thanks for all they have done to assist Randy in the recent months.
