M. Dawn Thompson

 

Akwesasne: M. Dawn Thompson, 67, of Saint Regis Road, Akwesasne, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2021 at University of Vermont Health Network – CVPH.

Dawn was born on February 15, 1954 in Massena, the daughter of Clarence and Dolores (Jacobs) Thompson. She attended Salmon River High School graduating in 1972. At one time, Dawn worked at the National Indian Brotherhood/Assembly of First Nations in Ottawa, ON and later at Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. She then went on to work for St. Regis Mohawk Tribe where she held various positions through the years and retired as Executive Director.

Dawn was a wonderful seamstress making many things for her family and friends through the years. She also liked to do crafts, cross stitch, read and plan weddings. Dawn enjoyed taking trips to Maine, but most of all she cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Dawn is survived by her mother, Dolores Thompson of Akwesasne; a son, Adam Thompson; two daughters, Bobbi Thompson and Kirsten Thompson both of Akwesasne; a chosen son, Justin Durant; five grandchildren, Kahonwase Thompson, Rayia Johnson and Aidan, Colin and Kamden Durant; a chosen granddaughter, Ashton Arquette; two sisters, Jeannine (Steve) Lazore, Cathy (Roger) Mitchell both of Akwesasne; three brothers, Darryl (Louise) Thompson of Akwesasne, Jonathan (Tracy) Thompson of Ottawa, ON, Shawn (Elaine) Thompson of Akwesasne; a goddaughter, Julie Light Swamp; best friends, Sheila Ransom and Betty Roundpoint as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Clarence Thompson and a grandson in infancy, Niklas.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 1:00-3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena. Funeral services will be held privately. Please note that visitation will be occupancy controlled with those attending required to observe social distancing and wear face coverings. If occupancy limitations are reached, those attending may have to wait outside until occupancy has been reduced.
